What is aikido?

Aikido is a powerful martial art that can only be used for self-defence. Aikido uses angles and balance to over-power larger or stronger opponents. Since aikido does not rely on strength to be effective, it is suitable for men and women of differing ages and abilities.

We study a traditional style of aikido called Iwama Style. This is a style of aikido developed by the late Morihiro Saito Sensei 9th Dan, a long-term student of O'Sensei, the founder of aikido. It concentrates on the study of basic but powerful aikido techniques and emphasises the use of aiki weapons (ken and jo).

Club News

Bookings for the Sensei Toutain seminar are now open. Places are very limited this year. Please book early to guarantee your place.

We have arranged a discount for club members wanting to buy more advanced aikido weapons from Bokkenshop or Custom Katana. Please contact Sensei David.

We have had a number of student enquiries about aikido books and DVDs. These books can be ordered from Amazon, while the DVDs are available from two US aikido sites. They provide basic guidance on core aikido taijutsu and weapons techniques.
